Park Improvements

Douglas Park was maintained as a community garden and park for many decades.  One of our main purposes is to restore Douglas Park to a usable public space where people can come to enjoy the views and relax in nature.

The gardening group planted a range of perennial and annual plants in the rose bed today. These are possibly not going to live in the rose bed for the rest of their lives as they may outgrow the area. However, when that happens we will transplant them to another area in the park. We have planted: Rudbekia 'goldstrum', shasta...

Benches

06/05/2021

After a long wait, we installed two benches today. The benches have been donated by two very kind members of the community - Mrs S Anderson and Mrs R Sweeney. We are very grateful for them and they make a fabulous addition to a park. Hopefully they will be well used (but not abused!).

Wildflowers

06/05/2021

We are keen to increase the biodiversity of the park by increasing the number of flowering species on site. To help with this, we are creating a wildflower meadow in the back corner of the park. We left it uncut at the beginning of May, dropped some bee bombs and scattered a small amount of wildflower seeds. Wildflowers don't...

Snowdrops

We were recently awarded a grant of £4,000 from the Scotland Loves Local Fund and £500 from Cambuslang Community Council from the Renewable Energy Fund Micro Grants Scheme for the purpose of reinstating the rose bed in the park. This week we have the lovely fellas at Glasgow Garden Maintenance at the park installing the surrounding block border....

Planting

03/06/2021

Today (6th March) we also managed to do some planting. We were very kindly donated some dwarf fruit trees from a local resident which we have placed near the noticeboard and near where a bench is due to be located (check back for further updates!). They should only grow to around 6 or 8 feet maximum and so...

Noticeboard

03/06/2021

We were awarded a grant of £200 from Cambuslang Community Council Renewable Energy Fund Micro Grants Scheme back in 2019. We had many delays with approvals, Covid-19 and then weather (repeatedly!). However, we are now pleased to confirm that the noticeboard went in today! The noticeboard will be fantastic for keeping the local community informed...
